Foreword : due to the increasing number of my foreing contacts and my relunctancy to write two distict newsletters, I'm sorry to announce that Frenchies will just have to make a little effort and read the damn letter in englist...
Hey boys & girls !
Sorry I haven't been sending much news for the last couple of months, life in Hong Kong is extremely busy, but now's the time to catch up .
I've been in HK for three months now and I think I've never been as busy as I am now in my entire life ! Take this week for example : monday evening was quiet, I was fucked up after a rough week end so I stayed at home. Actually, I only stayed at home because my game of squash was cancelled, so that's rater exceptionnal. On tuesday, I had a couple of friends for dinner at home. We finished at 2.30 am with 5 empty wine bottles, one empty whisky bottle and an empty vodka bottle. The last two were only 3/4 full I have to confess, but they were only 6 of us and that was tuesday evening... Yesteday evening, I played squash again ( I usually play twice a week) but with the nasty hangover I had, it was plenty enough for one evening. When we finished the game, I told my friends that I felt like a quiet evening at home on thursday, to which they answered that they would feel utterly offended if I didn't go clubbing with them this evening and that if I was to put my threat to execution, that could mean the end of our friendship. So it seems I'm going clubbing this evening...
On friday evening, my flatmate and I are holding a cocktail party. I don't know how many people are going to turn up, but we're definitely going to trash the flat once again. I just hope I don't have to repaint over wine stains on the walls as I already have done a couple of times.... On saturday (after I probably get five hours sleep and wake up still drunk as it happens to me quite often at week ends) some girls have organised a junk outing. 40 lads & ladies, all just as stupid as I am, spending 8 hours drinking booze and having fun on a big boat. Two weeks ago, during a similar outing while our boat was mooring, I swam to a huge yacht with acouple of guys. We climbed on it and asked the shocked owner (he was probably busy with his misses in the cabin when we climbed on) if this was Jackie Chan's boat. Unfortunately it wasn't and I'm still looking for Jackie... On saturday evening, I don't really know what's going to happen yet but I 'm rather confident that something ridicoulously alcoholic will happen. Same for sunday, we'll see....
That's a very tipical week for me in Hong Kong. The city is uggly, the local food smells like dead rat, the cultural life stops at McDonald's and the streets are packed with hordes of nasty chinese. But looking at the big picture, this pace is amazing fun. I probably forgot to mention this detail but I'm not on holiday here, I do work in a real office with real a computer and a real boss. I'm do try to look like an investment banker, which is why I also wear a suit fout times a week. It's just that, strangetly, my work doesn't seem to be the focus point of my life these days. Drinking like a fish and wasting my time on shallow activities with lousy french people is much more important to me these days...
Apart from that, what else? Loads of stuff in fact ! Two months ago I was in the Philiipines for the week end and almost tredded on a nest full of the deadlyest seasnakes on the planet with my flip flopps. A month later, I climbed Mt Kinabalu (in Borneo, Malaysia) from 1850 meters up to 4100 and then down again within the same day (14 hrs wakling to be precise) and still hand an insomia when I went to bed. Three weeks ago, I went to Seoul for a very quick business trip and was delighted to check out the immence qualty difference between Korean ass (sorry mum ! ) and the nasty chinese stuff we have out here. I've also planned a road trip from Bali to Jakarta for two and a half weeks when two of my great french buddies come over to visit me in october. Of course, taking my holidays when business is at it's peak and writing my newsletters from the office in August when there isn't anything to do is a strategic move towards my ambitous career plan. Last but not least, I'm dead keen on learning how to kitesurf as soon as the wind picks up again in the autumn and I will try my best not to get eaten by one of the many tiger sharks which have been spotted around HK lately.
Next newsletter in a coupe of months or so...
Cheers,
Dorian.
